As a governor, it was a very uplifting experience to see so many parents and their extended families supporting their children, and the school at the annual Tameside Catholic Schools’ Sports Association’s cross-country championships which were held at King George V Playing Fields, Ashton-under-Lyne.
There are many benefits for children’s physical, mental and personal development. There is the benefit of being fit and healthy. Running also provides many valuable life-learning skills that can support a child’s development right through to adulthood.
First of all, is better concentration for academic work, the building of confidence and resilience; time management skills; working towards goals; and participating as a team member as well as an individual. Running helps develop self-esteem and confidence within themselves.
Having spoken to the children, much of the above was in evidence.
