For thirty years, our school community has joined with the parish to support the Christmas Fair at St. John Fisher Parish Hall. Catholic schools are voluntary aided schools and receive 90% of funding from the government and, in the 1990’s, the Church or parish contributed the other 10%.
The headteacher at the time, Mr. Ganley, proposed that the school should show its appreciation to the parish and the parish priest, Fr. Brazil, by having three non-uniform days to provide groceries, fancy goods and bottles from the school’s families. The staff would then attend the Fair and run some of the stalls. This tradition continues to this day.
There is a great community feel to the evening when staff, parents, pupils, extended families, parishioners and the local community come together to purchase good quality goods.
