Safeguarding

At St John Fisher we share the ethos and values of the Roman Catholic community, for the benefit of the Children, Families, Staff and Governors we serve. As a Catholic school we strive for each child to fulfill their potential. The School aims to create and maintain a safe learning environment where all children and adults feel safe, secure and valued and know they will be listened to and taken seriously. Our school is committed to the principles outlined in ‘Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023’ and implements policies and procedures which promote safeguarding and the emotional and physical well-being of children and staff. We recognise that all adults within our St John Fisher RC Primary School & ASD Base, including permanent and temporary staff, volunteers and governors, have a full and active part to play in protecting our pupils from harm. We will work with parents to build an understanding of our responsibilities to ensure the welfare of all children, including the need for referrals to other agencies in some situations. We ensure that all appropriate measures are applied in relation to everyone who works in the school who is likely to be perceived by the children as a safe and trustworthy adult including e.g. volunteers and staff employed by contractors. Safer recruitment practice includes scrutinising applicants, verifying identity and academic or vocational qualifications, obtaining professional and character references, checking previous employment history and ensuring that a candidate has the health and physical capacity for the job. It also includes undertaking interviews and where appropriate, Disclosure and Barring Service checks.
