Welcome to our EYFS where your child's journey begins!
At St John Fisher RC Primary School, we welcome all new children and their families into the St John Fisher Family. For most, this journey starts in the EYFS.
We make learning interesting, engaging and fun. We recognise all children's individual talents, gifts and skills and support them to discover their unique identity so that they can become confident, happy children who love learning. We have an amazing EYFS Department, and both our indoor and outdoor areas provide a fantastic space for our children to learn, play and explore.
Our Nursery offers both part time and full time places.

Curriculum Intent
At St John Fisher, we value every child as an individual, who we place at the centre of everything we do, and every decision we make. Our provision is tailored to your child's interests and needs, ensuring they have the best start in life.
In Early Years we are active learners who love to play, explore and demonstrate our ability to create and think critically.
We plan exciting opportunities based on children’s interests and ensures that children enjoy their learning.
Your child will learn in whole class, group sessions and through child-initiated activities. Both indoor and outdoor continuous provision is delivered in an environment where your child can explore and flourish as an active learner.
The EYFS Curriculum comprises of seven areas of learning and development:
Prime Areas
- Communication & Language
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social & Emotional Development
Specific Areas:
- Literacy
- Maths
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
Your child will be encouraged to explore the seven areas of learning independently, building on the characteristics of learning and developing their problem solving skills.

Tapestry and Parent Communication:

We use the Tapestry online Learning Journey system throughout the school. All children have a personal on-line Learning Journey which will contain observations, photographs and videos documenting key moments of learning and progress. The evidence collected is a record of your child’s experiences and achievements during their time with us, and will be linked in to the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. In addition to our contributions we encourage you at add to it by adding your own photographs and comments, or commenting on observations added by us.
We will also use Tapestry to inform you of any notices or events.

Toothbrushing Scheme: Super Smiles
Tooth decay is the most common disease affecting young children. In Tameside, 27.6% of 5-yearold children have experienced tooth decay, resulting in an average of 3 missed days from school/nursery each year. We have therefore been invited by Tameside Public Health Team to take part in the Super Smiles toothbrushing scheme.
Children are supervised by trained members of staff to brush their teeth with fluoride toothpaste once a day whilst in a classroom setting. Each child receives their own toothbrush, which will be identifiable, stored in a safe storage system and changed termly.
Your child should continue to brush at home at least twice a day. Toothbrushing before your child goes to bed is the most important time as the fluoride can be left on their teeth whilst asleep to help strengthen and protect the tooth enamel.
Here are some top tips for toothbrushing at home:
• Parents or carers should use no more than a pea-size amount of toothpaste for children between 3 and 6 years.
• As soon as they are able (usually around the age of 3 years) children should be encouraged to spit out excess toothpaste, and not to rinse with water after brushing.
• Brush all tooth surfaces at least twice a day (last thing at night or bedtime and on at least one other occasion), with family toothpaste containing between 1,350-1,500 ppm of fluoride.
• Toothpaste containing the recommended level of fluoride can be bought from most local supermarkets for as little as £1.00. Look for supermarket own brands and always check the label.
• Using timers, apps, songs, and reward charts can encourage your child to brush for two minutes. Make it fun and get everyone in the family involved. Younger children learn by watching older siblings or adults.
• Remember that child under the age of seven should always be supervised by an adult during toothbrushing.
